We're doing it again.
This time in March.
The Southeast's biggest celebration of Belgian Beer & Food.
Coasters Pub in Melbourne, Florida. March 9th, 10th and 11th, 2012.
First we'd like to those that have visited Belgian
Beer Fest the previous two years. If you liked the previous events,
you will not be disappointed this year. For the uninitiated, let us
explain what the deal is:
We'll
have thirty five taps of Belgian Beer and Belgian Food Specials all
weekend. It's a labor of love. We have good relationships with beer
importers and distributors, and we collect unique and sometimes very
rare kegs of Belgian Beer all year.
Why Belgian beer? It's some of the highest quality,
best tasting and most inventive beer on the planet. The brewing
tradition in Belgium is truly impressive. Give or take, there are
currently 178 breweries in Belgium. That's a lot. And that's in a
country the size of West Virginia. Beer is almost a religion in
Belgium. Sometimes it's closely tied with religion, as many abbeys
and monasteries brew their own beer. The Belgians are serious about
beer, just as the Germans. However, while the Germans are restricted
by the Beer Purity Law of 1516, the Belgians are free to experiment.
That makes the variety of Belgian beer on par with that of the
United States. So take the engineering exactness of Germans, a
religious dedication and add to it ingenuity and experimentation and
you have the Belgian Beer Scene.
We collect upwards of fifty different Belgian kegs of
beer for the event, so as soon as one keg blows it's replaced;
usually with something completely different. That way you're able to
return the next day to a new beer menu with plenty of brews you
haven't tried. We'll be posting
a list of kegs soon. Check back to see what we'll be pouring!
Food? We've got that covered. In addition to our
regular food menu, our capable kitchen will be cooking up some
Belgian Favorites. We'll be steaming mussels in witbier and fresh
vegetables. We'll be serving up Belgian chocolates and cheeses, and
cooking Belgian waffles. You won't leave here hungry. We do ask that
you have a safe plan to leave, however.
The Latest
News Goes Here:
-
2/15/2012 - We took over Coasters Pub at about the
same time that Cigar City Brewing was founded in Tampa; early 2008.
They make some awesome brews and really push the boundaries of beer,
using their six-sense of brewing to come up with some really great and
unique brews. We were one of their first draught locations on the East
Coast of Florida and continue to feature their high quality brews full
time on our tap wall.
For both our first (2010) and second (2011) Belgian Beer Fest ,
they've given their love back and used their talents to brew us a
special, one-off, Belgian-inspired ale to feature during our Belgian
Beer Fest.
We've done it again.
This past Summer we sold Cigar City Brewing our old Brewing System.
After years in storage, it was still in great shape overall, but the
rubber seals and cooling systems had suffered the ravages that our
Atlantic Ocean, salt-laden air deals upon just about every exposed
surface on the barrier island. Cigar City resurrected our old
brewhouse and are now using it for experimental batches. The next
great beer invention may come from our old Coasters Pub tanks.
And the next great batch of beer will be delivered here shortly. We
just received word that Cigar City's pilot brewer, Ben Romano, has
just completed our special Belgian Beer Fest beer for this year's
event.
We shipped him 12 pounds of local Orange Blossom Honey, and the zest
of a dozen oranges, both from the same orange grove just north of
Titusville, right here in Brevard County. With that we sent a request
for a moderately-strong Belgian-style Golden Ale with the subtle
flavors and scents of an orange grove.
We just heard back that the beer is done, kegged for us, awesome, and
will be available for the Belgian Beer Fest.
-
2/14/2012 - We now have 30 different kegs of Belgian Beer
in inventory, with quite a few more on the way. This will be an
awesome event.
-
2/12/2012 - Our beer-geek friend in Brugges, Belgium gust
responded with some awesome Belgian recipes for our kitchen to try out
for Belgian Beer Fest. The most interesting among them are a beef
carbonnade stew, made with Belgian Strong Dark Ale, served over pommes
frittes. We'll be doing some test batches soon!
Be Safe. Here are Some Places to
Stay:
Many of the Belgian Beers are high in alcohol. Some
may be 10% or more. With that in mind, we ask that you plan ahead on
finding a safe way to get home. Cabs will be available and hotels
are just across the street; some even have free shuttle services.
